It really is a good book if you get past Orson Scott Card's HABITUAL neglect of any description or decent prose. At Battle School they single Ender out to force him to achieve a military greatness at LEAST twenty years before he would have in normal circumstances. A normal adult would manipulate to get a child to take his medicine or go to bed on time. Peter and Valentine manipulate so they can influence world politics. A normal child would manipulate to get candy or a video game. Each side thinks they are doing "what's best." They manipulate to achieve that. The relationships boil down to each side trying to squeeze an advantage over the other. The point I'm beating around the bush to get at is this: Both sides are unaware of the capability of the other to manipulate them or be aware of their manipulation. At home, Peter and Valentine manipulate their parents into getting an adult net pass so they can manipulate other adults into behaving how they wish them to behave. If you notice, at Battle School, Ender is the subject of tests and manipulation. His struggles aren't with the adults though, his struggles are always with the other children.Īnother point I found was the converse manipulation going on with the mirror story of Peter and Valentine. Every command they issue causes him to struggle. It created a very strained relationship, especially since until Ender meets a select few "superiors" later in the book, the adults are very impersonal to him. children are not really that different compared to adults.ĭo you think I can use what I have, and have an effective essay? Also can people give me suggestions regarding what should I include in my essay?Ĭlick to expand. You might also consider that the children of his novel are very aware of their manipulation at the hands of the adults for the most part. sometimes manipulation is needed in order to further this potential in a childģ. trying to tell readers that generally adults see the potential of childrenĢ. My thesis in my outline basically outlined 3 key points that I think are true.ġ. Refer to any other relationships Ender has with adults that you think has significance. What is Card saying about this relationship? Illustrate your points by referring to Ender's relationship with his parents, Graff and Anderson. My topic: One of the central themes is the relationships between children and adults. I guess this type of SF book was not for me. I like SF books but I really did not enjoy Ender's Game for some reason. I read Ender's Game and need to tackle an essay about it. Okay folks, I'd appreciate if you can help out in any way possible.
